There is no room to snooze this month! It is March, you beautiful people and we need to wake up and get active. First, let’s get to Spring cleaning! This Months Beats

“Spring Cleaning”

Featured Artist: Celia Cruz

Song: La Vida Es Un Carnaval

EVERYONE knows this song! If you’re not running to the dance floor when you hear this song come on…we have some things to discuss. Whether you’re on the dance floor or you’re at home cleaning, you can’t resist shaking your hips to queen Celia Cruz. Her voice is so distinct and she has so many songs to dance to. In case you didn’t know, Celia is Cuban and rose to fame in the 1950s. She eventually left Cuba and continued her music career in Mexico and later the United States. She has won numerous awards for her work and even received two Grammy awards and three Latin Grammy awards. Her catchphrase “Azúcar!” is easily recognizable in her songs and never fails to get you pumped.

LGBTQ+ LA Business

Name: The New Jalisco Bar

Where: 245 S. Main, Los Angeles, CA. Instagram: @the_newjaliscobar

The New Jalisco bar has been open to the LGBTQ community since the 1990s. Rosa Maria Hernandez noticed that more gay men started coming into the bar and welcomed them. Soon it became a new bar for the queer community to have fun and feel safe. This is specifically important because the Latino community in Los Angeles had lacked the space. Before the pandemic, they had provided space for drag queen performances and openly queer personalities to shine instead of hide behind heteronormal faces. Recently, they had made it public that they may not be able to pay their bills and keep the bar open. This would lead to a decrease of LGBTQ safe nightlife spaces. However, people opened up their hearts, purses, and wallets to donate to keep the bar open. They met their goal but will still need assistance for the future if there are still restrictions due to the pandemic. Help them out with $5 or even $100 to keep the party going when it is time!
