July Newsletter

Hot Queer Summer is here! July is a time for us to soak in some sun and fun with friends and family. Below, Latino Equality Alliance provides you with some fun summer ideas to do. We also highlighted an LGBTQ-owned business to support and a Spotify playlist to keep you movin’ and groovin’ all month long. Have fun, wear sunscreen, and drink water!

Boho Beach Day

Grab a couple of friends and head to your nearest second-hand store and get to shoppin’. Some of the things you will need, such as a beach blanket, you will have at home. However, things you might need to buy are pillows, drinking glasses, fake flowers, candle holders, etc. Look through the second-hand store and get colorful and creative!

Projector Movie Marathon

On a hot summer night, plan a movie marathon using a projector. You can set it up on a blank wall in your house or outside on one of the walls. Get some popcorn and have fun!

Rent a Boat

Aye, Aye, Captain! Head out to Long Beach for the day and rent a boat of your choosing. The business, Boats4rent has powerboats, electric boats, and pontoons to rent from. Take some snacks, lunch, and beverages to enjoy the day out with friends and family.

“Hot Queer Summer”

Featured Artist: Lil Nas X

Song: Call me by your name

About Song/Artist: Lil Nas X first became famous from the song “Old town Road” in 2019. Since then, he has come out publicly as a gay man and has received support. Recently, he made a music video ‘’Montero (call me by your name),” in which he played with fashion, make-up, and his sexuality. It received a lot more criticism than the same type of music videos with heteronormative messages but he stuck behind his work. Lil Nas X is an important piece of LGBTQ+ acceptance where his sexuality is not being filtered to fit non-queer standards. The boundaries are breaking and a free music field is emerging.
